Our
Evolutionary Drivers

In the last few decades, pessimism has spread through society.
Various problems have lead to calls for limits to economic growth.
"We've gone too far and moved too fast, destroying environments,
depleting resources and creating technologies putting us at risk."

I
believe the opposite. We're not moving fast enough, not reaching
the solutions in time. Look at the space program: From a short
perspective it might look as a waste of money. But from a longer
perspective, it
may well be what saves the Earth - giving
us access
to unlimited new resources and clean energy.

This is not a coincidence - it's the nature of progress. Threats
are
Evolutionary Drivers. Research shows that the skills of our early
ancestors evolved fastest during times of big challenges, such as
changing environments. It happened in World War II too, with
new
technologies booming. You either speed
up or you perish.

So if anything puts us in danger, it's a stop or slowdown to growth,
i.e. that we destroy us before we can save us. In fact, we cannot
stop Human growth, economic or otherwise. It's not in our nature.
Even if some of us would try, many others would not.
