Life in the Universe

Our world is buzzing with the murmurs of our civilization. Billions
of individuals which - much like ants in an anthill - run around busy
dealing with their everyday life matters... largely unaware of the
greater reality which awaits just a few steps beyond.

But today, some of us have begun to ponder our beyond, making
small excursions in our surroundings - perhaps more resembling
bees around a beehive. After all, a society confined to one small location is very vulnerable. An anthill can be viped out in seconds.

And we start to ask ourselves: Are we alone? Are there other hives
out there we can make contact with? It's now a very popular topic.
And we listen but hear nothing. Where are they? Too big distances,
too hard for life to evolve? Do we communicate in the wrong way?
Or maybe they are already here in secret...

The theories are many, but we forget one thing: We're a new and
very primitive species. Any intelligence out there may be god-like
entities with a million years of evolution.
Why would they care?
You don't sit down to have a talk with the ants and bees, do you?
At best, you ignore them.
